A rare and highly sought after on board post card from the Titanic. It was sent by Albert "Bert" Denbuoy to his younger brother, Reginald. The front of the postcard features a starboard view colour illustration of Titanic at sea with sailboats and seagulls in foreground. Text printed above the image reads: White Star Royal Mail Steamer "Titanic". Tonnage 45000 tons, Length 882 1/2 feet, Breadth 92 1/2 feet. To the reverse, Herbert has penned in ink, "To Reggie with love from Bert". Printed text in the lower left corner reads: State Series, Liverpool. 5 1/2 ins. x 3 7/16 ins. Very good condition, with minor edge wear and a light vertical crease.
Albert Denbouy was a second class passenger travelling on board the Titanic to New Jersey. He didn't survive the tragedy and sadly, his body was never identified. Bert would have purchased this rare postcard in Titanic's souvenir shop. He subsequently mailed it to his brother in an envelope (not included) along with other correspondence to the family. Reginald passed away in 1991. The postcard remained in his family until 2008 when it was sold via specialist Titanic auctioneer, Henry Aldridge & Son. At the time, it was accompanied by a statement of provenance from the wife of Reginald's nephew. Recently sold by the original buyer, who had unfortunately misplaced the letter of provenance in the ensuing years. Accompanied by an original Henry Aldridge & Sons auction catalogue from 2008, that includes multiple images and a description of our postcard. A fabulous memento from the ill fated voyage.
