Offered here are a fantastic set of Arnold Palmer's golf clubs used prior to the inaugural Rolex Golf Tournament in Tokyo, 1968. Palmer had become the first Rolex Golf Ambassador a year earlier. The set comprises of 10 irons, 5 woods (with Rolex head covers) and 1 putter, in a green and yellow Rolex Golf Bag. The set was gifted by Palmer to John Reed, who opened and ran the Tokyo Rolex branch from 1953. Included is a letter of authenticity from Keynote Memorabilia detailing the provenance and guaranteeing authenticity for life.

John Reed was responsible for establishing the Rolex International Tournament in Japan and met many of the leading players of the day (including Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Tony Jacklin) and played three rounds with Palmer prior to the tournament in 1968. Palmer kindly gifted the clubs he'd used to Mr Reed as he had a spare set to use in the tournament. The clubs are accompanied by a 4.5" x 3" photo of Palmer with Reed (2nd on the right) at the actual 1968 Tokyo tournament. The photo shows Palmer with the second set of clubs that are very similar, although not identical, to the clubs being offered here. Also included is subsequent signed letter sent by Arnold Palmer to John Reed in 1979 thanking him for the photo album of that years Rolex Tournament. Additionally there's an Arnold Palmer '"Rolex Golf Classic" tie clip and a trophy from the tournament which is engraved "Rolex Golf Tournament - Arnold Palmer Cup - 1968". A highly desirable ensemble of Arnold Palmer items with excellent provenance.

The clubs and bag show evident signs of use and ageing. The bag is in good condition with minor cracking to the leather. There are several scuffs and scratches to the exterior. The trophy shows some light tarnishing and the golf club is missing from the figurine at the top. Each club has had a sticker affixed to the shaft by Japanese Customs, from when Mr Reed brought them back to Britain many years later.
