A handwritten legal authorisation by the renowned opera composer, Giacomo Puccini. Handwritten in black ink on the first page of a folio sheet. Translated from Puccini's native Italian, the statement reads: "I the undersigned Puccini Giacomo, authorise Mr lawyer Mario Andreini to appear in front of judge of the peace from Lucca relative to the indictment from Pietro Battaglia, host in Lucca." Signed by Puccini at the conclusion and dated 24/6/1914 at Torre del Lago. In good condition with a central fold each way. A couple of small tears to the edges of the fold lines and minor separation where they intersect. Age toning to the paper and a couple of spots of unobtrusive soiling.
From 1891 onwards, Puccini spent most of his leisure time at Torre del Lago, a small community about fifteen miles from Lucca situated between the Ligurian Sea and Lake Massaciuccoli, just south of Viareggio. Torre del Lago was the primary place for Puccini to indulge his love of hunting. He acquired land and built a villa on the lake, now known as the "Villa Museo Puccini." He lived there until 1921, when pollution produced by peat works on the lake forced him to move to Viareggio, a few kilometres north.
