A hardback printing of In His Own Write by John Lennon, published by Jonathan Cape, London, June 1964 (5th edition). Signed and inscribed "Love to Helen from John Lennon xxx" by Lennon in bold blue ink to the front pastedown and signed "Ringo Starr" by Ringo in bold black ink to the front free endpaper. Lennon's signature appears beneath an ink presentation inscription to the previous owner (Helen) by her parents. Some very light, extremely minor age wear. The book is accompanied by a typed statement signed by John Rusling (father of Helen) stating, in part: "On the 9th November 1964 I was a police sergeant in Sheffield and given the duty of getting The Beatles, after their journey from Manchester, into the Sheffield City Hall…..That morning I bought a copy of John Lennon's illustrated poems for my ten year old daughter Helen's birthday. With two other plain clothed officers I met The Beatles and ushered them through the quiet rear doors of the City Hall. I sat with them back-stage as they ate a cold chicken meal before their concert and John Lennon and Ringo Starr kindly signed the poetry book". The Beatles performed in concert at the City Hall, Sheffield, on 9th November 1964 as part of their Autumn UK Tour.
