This is George Harrison’s old Mantel Clock which was used in his home during the 1960's. A medium sized clock in walnut with a sycamore inlay. On the top is a plastic aperture for ‘two florins weekly’. The clock is what was known as an 'insurance clock' as they were commonly given out for free by insurance companies during the period. It comes with a small note of provenance from decorated Beatles fan Susan Houghton which reads: "This clock was given to me as a gift from George Harrison as he no longer required it after buying a new clock for his home, Susan Houghton". With some expected handling and age related wear, but generally in very good condition. The clock still works when wound up.
Note: Susan Houghton was referred to by George Harrison’s mother Louise as George’s number one fan. She regularly attended the Cavern club with her three friends and they often requested the Beatles dedicate songs to them. She visited Louise Harrison during his absence in Hamburg in December 1962 and struck up a friendship with her that lasted many years. Also included is photocopies of two pages from an old Christie's catalogue showing several items from the collection of Susan Houghton.
