A brief autograph note signed, on one of Manet's printed business cards. The card features Manet's 77 rue d'Amsterdam address; the artist opened a spacious new studio there in April 1879, maintaining the space until his death four years later. In full: "Good for a pastel portrait. Ed. Manet. 26.Xbre 1879".
The business card was sent to Eugene Pellaten (the letter that accompanied it is also listed on our site) in voucher format, evidently on the hope that he could find a buyer for one of Manet's paintings. In the letter Manet informed his friend: "I'm sending you a voucher for a pastel portrait, but you must not sell it for less than 500 francs." A bargain by today's lofty prices!
