An autographed copy of Walt Disney's Fantasia by Deems Taylor. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1940. First edition, signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen by Walt Disney on the title page: "To Robert Frazier from Walt Disney - B.A. 1941". Folio; 12.75 x 9.5 inches. A beautifully illustrated book with Publisher's beige cloth, front board and spine lettered in dark blue; includes the scarce original Dust Jacket. The cloth shows toning, soiling and a little foxing. Rubbing to the corners and extremes of the spine, which is somewhat shaken. Light foxing to interior pages. The Dust jacket price clipped; the edges demonstrating several chips and tears. Overall, about very good.
The book was signed by Walt Disney in Buenos Aires, during his goodwill tour of South America. Undertaken during the Second World War, the U.S. government had asked for Walt's assistance in attempting to quell budding Nazi sympathy in the region; Walt himself was eager to gather material for future films. With typical diplomacy, Walt managed to do both. It was on the same tour that the Disney entourage realised just how important the Brazilian Parrot was to local culture; this led to the creation of José Carioca as Donald Duck's co-star in the 1942 movie Saludos Amigos.
