A scarce original concert poster for The Beatles performance at The Royal Hall, Harrogate on Friday 8th March 1963. Advertised as "Dancing for Teens and Twenties with the recording stars of Please Please Me, The Sensational Beatles". Bold green font printed on white paper. There are folds lines both ways. Several edge tears, most notably about mid-way on the left hand side. Four pieces of tape on the back, one which is holding a small piece of paper in place. Scattered soiling/dirt throughout, which is more prominent on the rear of the poster. Measures 18" by 28".
The poster dates from an exciting period in the rise of the Fab Four. The Beatles second single - Please Please Me - sat atop the UK charts and just two weeks after their Harrogate performance, the band would release their first studio album of the same name. It would also obtain top spot in the album charts and remain there for a staggering thirty weeks!
Provenance: The Apaches and The Mustangs were local Harrogate groups. The recent vendor of the poster states "Johnny Lockhead of the Apaches kept this poster from the 1963 night; in the 1970's he took it into a picture framers on Strawberry Dale Avenue in Harrogate to be framed. He never returned for it. In approx 1984 the framer agreed to sell it to me. Smaller copies have been made from it. This is the original." The poster will come with a signed statement of provenance from the vendor confirming the above information.
