This is the original match worn shirt used by captain Bobby Moore in England's international friendly away to Poland on 5th July 1966. It was the Three Lions last game before the legendary 1966 World Cup campaign kicked off. The match took place at the Stadion Slaski in Chorzow with 93,000 in attendance. England prevailed 1-0 thanks to a fourteenth minute strike by Roger Hunt. The iconic red away shirt has been signed by Moore in black marker pen across the central chest "Best Wishes - Bobby Moore". The shirts does show significant signs of match use with several mud stains. Slight fraying and wear to the England badge. The autograph remains bold.
This is a great opportunity to own a match worn shirt by one of England's greatest - if not greatest - players of all time. It's also the same style Umbro, long sleeve jersey worn in the 1966 World Cup Final. Unless you own that shirt (which isn't very likely) this might just be the next best thing ...
Provenance: The shirt was previously sold by the original owner through the reputable Graham Budd Auctions on the 20th November 2007. A print out of the sale result from their website is included with the shirt (see photos). Please note that the shirt was then listed as having been worn by Moore in the match against Portugal on 17th May 1964. It was sold with a photo of Moore presenting the shirt to the original owner (unfortunately the buyer from Graham Budd Auctions later misplaced the photo). Having discussed the issue with some of England's leading match worn shirt experts, we've reliably been informed that the shirt is almost certainly from the match with Poland on the 5th July 1966. Please contact us if you'd like to discuss the details further.
